Also called “genital or genito-urinary prolapse”, organ descent is a disease that can occur particularly in women. It is favored by the occurrence of difficult and numerous deliveries. It is therefore a gynecological disorder that manifests itself by the abnormal displacement of an organ in the woman’s pelvis. In order to recognize this condition, some of the following signs may alert you.
A feeling of heaviness or compression
When a woman has organ descent, certain signs may appear. One of these is a feeling of heaviness. She will have a painful pain in the lower part of her body. This heaviness will be even greater with multiple movements. The sensation of compression is one of the signs of organ descent. This feeling will be reinforced at the level of her pelvis. This can be particularly unpleasant. The doctor must be informed early enough to establish a diagnosis and accompany the patient.
Lumbar pain
Lumbar means “lower back”. This term is used to name a part of the human anatomy. The lumbar region is located in the lower back. This region includes five lumbar vertebrae. The lumbar region supports most of the body’s weight. During an organ descent, the patient experiences lower back pain. To recognize them, these pains occur in the lower back with a painful blocking. The slightest movement becomes particularly painful. If you are experiencing lower back pain, it may be due to genital prolapse, which your doctor should be aware of.
Pressure in the vaginal area
In the case of genital prolapse, the patient usually feels more or less pressure in the vagina. This pressure is due to the displacement of organs in the lower body. This discomfort usually increases with physical exertion, such as long walks. This happens when the pelvic floor or ligaments become stretched or loose. This sign should alert the patient to the source of the discomfort.
A sensation of organ descent
The sensation of organ descent is one of the most explicit signs of the disease. Indeed, it is translated by the displacement of organs towards the woman’s pelvis. It is then characterized by the sliding of pelvic organ(s). These are located in the pelvis. The pelvic organs concerned by genital prolapse are for example the uterus and the bladder. In the first case, we speak of hysterocele, in the second of cystocele.
Constipation with difficult defecation
In the case of organ descent, the patient may suffer from constipation with difficult defecation. In some cases, this condition leads to anal problems, such as difficulty in passing stool. However, this symptom is related to several types of diseases, so it is advisable to consult a health professional so that the analyses can confirm the origin of such an anomaly.
Urinary urgency
In many cases, organ descent is accompanied by urinary problems. These problems can be expressed by urinary leakage or stress incontinence. However, be careful not to confuse this symptom with other diseases. Indeed, bladder weakness can occur with age and be due to a urinary or vaginal infection, a urinary stone or any other cause. It is advisable to talk to a doctor to determine the context of the disease and make an early diagnosis of the risks involved.
Factors favoring genital prolapse
Genitourinary prolapse is a disease that women can suffer from due to certain factors. Even if it concerns women of all generations, the risks increase with age.
This disease will then be favored by several factors such as repeated pregnancies. Obstetrical trauma can also have an influence. Muscle or ligament loosening can be a cause, secondary to estrogen deficiency, nutritional deficiencies, obesity, or aging. These complications can also be promoted by surgical procedures on the pelvic organs. Abdominal hyperpressure can also promote genital prolapse, due to intensive sports practice, repeated carrying of heavy loads…
