Urinary incontinence is characterized by an uncontrollable loss of urine. It can occur at any time, as we will see in the following article. Several factors can be at the origin of this phenomenon in women.
I suggest you discover the different types of female incontinence, the causes and the ways to protect yourself. We will also discuss fecal incontinence.
Stress incontinence
It occurs when the perineal muscle supporting the bladder is no longer tonic enough or when the bladder sphincter no longer does its job. This type of incontinence is mainly the result of pressure exerted by pregnancy, constipation, obesity, chronic coughing, traumatic sports and carrying heavy loads.
Then come the menopause and muscle aging. The practice of perineal rehabilitation is mandatory. Surgery with bladder support bands is also to be considered.
Urinary incontinence by imperiousness
The urge to urinate is not progressive but fulgurating and imperious. Despite all possible efforts to hold it in, the urge is too strong. This incontinence is due to faulty electrical signals between the brain and the bladder.
The urge to urinate is more frequent and the amount of urine is greater. Bladders irritated by frequent cystitis are the most affected. OAB is treated with medication.
Mixed urinary incontinence
Mixed urinary incontinence is the combination of the two previous types of incontinence. A loss of urine during an effort or by an irrepressible urge.
Neurological bladder
For certain patients who are bedridden, paralyzed, or in the case of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, or multiple sclerosis, there may be functional disorders of the bladder. The nerves are often damaged and the connection with the brain is no longer ensured correctly. The patient’s care must be comprehensive.
Permanent urinary incontinence
This incontinence is due to a malformation of the urinary tract which ends in the vagina. It is a very rare anomaly. Urine is discharged into the vagina day and night. This is called ectopic abruption.
Anal incontinence
This incontinence corresponds to the emission of stool or gas in an uncontrolled way. The problem is mainly due to certain traumas of the anal sphincter. It can also result from neurological pathologies, anal surgeries, malformations or diseases such as certain tumors… The treatments are medicated or associated with rectal rehabilitation.
